I found the club to be remarkably forgiving. It refuses to dig into the turf and glides through it almost like a sand wedge. Not the longest club, but consistently straight. If the goal is to keep the ball in play and point it towards the flagstick, this is a good option.
Great forgiveness led to every shot being long and really high. It felt like I had the entire face to work with. I mis-hit one way out on the toe, and it still covered 95 percent of my normal distance, and stayed straight as narrow. Great for a beginner who just wants to have fun and hit shots that make you fall in love with the game.
The club is really heavy and lumbering, which made me feel like I had to drag it through the hitting zone in order to make contact. When I did, it wasn't the best experience. I could never get the ball up as high as I wanted. The only good news is that shots didn't veer drastically offline.
It looks like a super game-improvement club with a thick topline. The club extends behind the topline with quite a bit of offset, too. It's just not something I want to see over the ball. The thick sole made it hard to get shots up in the air, and mis-hits came out lower than usual.
The forgiveness is very good. It will make the most of anything you apply to it. Launch is adequate to good. However, the whole experience is somewhat joyless, and even great shots don't feel very satisfying.
It looks like a hybrid in the form of an iron. It acted like it, too, because it was providing a lot of horsepower. It eliminated any kind of potential turf issues and consistently delivered massive, high, driving shots. It's something I'll be playing when I'm 80. Or maybe tomorrow.
I'd like to see less difference—about 20 yards—between good strikes and mis-hits, especially in this category. It's a very big club. You can see the back of the sole protruding out from behind the face at address. But despite its girth, it feels very light. When making good contact, it sounds like a whip snapping through the hitting zone. The ball pops off the face really fast.
It felt effortless to get the ball up in the air as high as it did. At impact, you really feel the energy transfer taking the ball up and out. The heft of the club disperses the ground and makes it kind of disappear beneath the ball.
It's a bigger package than most, but not to the point where it's destructive through the impact zone. The sole design helps with turf interaction, and the same high launch and trajectory is consistent throughout the set. It was just a little bit vacant through the impact zone. I didn't have a really strong sense of where the clubface was.
It's not the most attractive club offering; however, it's hard to ignore when it comes to performance. It was extremely consistent. The center of the face was easy to find and the ball flight was a little stronger than a lot of other clubs in this category. I was pleasantly surprised!
I'm not a fan of having so much of the sole poking out from behind the topline. Too much offset for me, as well. It looks really busy. But then I take it back and hit it, and it all makes sense to me. It's virtually impossible to miss with this club. The sole interacts with the turf beautifully, and the offset really helps you square the face and hit solid shots.
This club was like swinging a sledgehammer. It's so heavy. As a result, I had a hard time getting the ball up in the air and controlling the dispersion. I was mis-hitting shots left and right, and spraying the ball literally everywhere.
